About this event

This is a newly modified Triple Crown course that retains the best of the prior years' Peak-to-Peak course, with a tiny bit more elevation gain! The highlight of his route is that we take in the entirety of the Peak-to-Peak Highway, but with the addition of a not-to-be-missed jaunt to Brainard Lake. On paper this could be the most challenging paved ride of this year's series. Join us to see if this is indeed the case!

Details:

Distance: 197 miles

Start Time: Wheels turning at 3:00 AM
Time Limit: 19 hours
Start/End location: Coors Tek - Golden

Fees: Since this ride in unsupported, there is no cost-recovery fee for this ride.

Course Description: This event features 3 major climbs on a course that is basically never flat after some of the early miles:

Loveland to Devils Gulch Road: Category 2. The gradual 20 mile, 2,800 foot climb from Loveland to Glen Haven are an absolute joy to ride. The steep switchbacks in the final mile of this climb is guaranteed test the best climbers!

Wind River Pass (elev. 9150 feet): Category 2. The climb out of Estes Park is 8 miles long and climbs 1600 feet. From here you won't be below 8000 feet until reaching Idaho Springs.

Brainard Lake (elev. 10,371 feet): Category 1. This is a sustained, 2300 ft. climb in 13 miles. The part on Highway 7 is pretty gradual, but the climb up to the lake is more challenging!

From there the climbs become shorter, but relentless! Once in Blackhawk, the ride becomes mostly downhill, but don't forget Floyd Hill and Genesee!

Additional Notes:

  1. Some ultra-distance experience is encouraged (but not required) to participate in this event. If you do not have such experience, we do recommend having personal support. RMCC does not sweep the course.
  2. Given the exposure to high altitude, nasty weather can be a major concern all Triple Crown rides. Participants need to be prepared and bring their best winter- and wet-riding gear with them!
  3. Lights and reflective gear are required!
